About

I am a classical guitarist, teacher and arranger. My concert activities include both solo and chamber music, with a particular focus on original arrangements for guitar and voice.
Alongside my concert activities, I have been dedicated to teaching for many years. Chamber music projects and my own arrangements for guitar and voice also form an important part of my musical work.
Biography
Michal Svoboda studied guitar at the Pardubice Conservatory with Stanislav Juřica and subsequently at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Alexander Swete, graduating with distinction in 2011 in the concert performance programme. He further expanded his education by studying instrumental pedagogy at the Landeskonservatorium Feldkirch with Tomasz Zawierucha, also graduating with distinction.
He further developed his artistic experience through masterclasses with renowned guitarists including Zoran Dukić, Pablo Márquez and Hopkinson Smith. In 2014, he became the overall winner of the international guitar competition in Treviso, and a year later he was awarded second prize at the international competition in Gevelsberg.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs in the Czech Republic and abroad. In addition to the classical guitar repertoire, he is active in chamber music and collaborates with singers. One of his notable artistic experiences was a performance of Pierre Boulez’s Le Marteau sans maître with the Webern Ensemble Wien under conductor Jean-Bernard Matter.
He has also been active as a teacher in the Czech Republic and Austria for many years. At the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, he worked as an assistant to Univ.-Prof. Alexander Swete in the concert guitar programme.
Today, alongside his solo concert activities, he focuses primarily on chamber music projects with singers Radka Rubešová and Barbora de Nunes-Cambraia. His own arrangements for voice and guitar form an important part of his work.
